Project Setup

For Unity to work with virtual reality headsets, you need to add a few packages to your project and set it up accordingly.

Packages Installation

  • Click on Window > Package Manager.
  • Install the following libraries by selecting each one and clicking on Install:
    • Oculus Android
    • Oculus Desktop

SDK Installation

  • Go to Edit > Project Settings. A popup window will appear.
  • Select the Player tab, and on the right scroll down to find the XR Settings section.
  • Make sure Virtual Reality Supported is checked, and that Oculus is installed in the Virtual Reality SDKs. If you cannot see it, click on the + button on the bottom right to add it manually. The Oculus SDK must always be on top of any other SDKs in this list if you are working with an Oculus headset.

You are good to go! Now just set up the Interactive Camera and start creating!

Workspace Setting

The following step is optional but recommended. To better follow our tutorials and as a general tip, we recommend setting up Unity with a specific workspace.

Unity is set up by default with the above workspace, which is not very practical in the context of working with Zoe. Let’s see how we can change it.

Go to Window > Layouts or directly to the Layout dropdown menu at the top right of Unity and select 2 by 3. This will change the general layout of Unity. You can also arrange the windows as it better suits you, or simply choose another layout one from the list.

We also recommend for the Project window to choose the One Column Layout. Click on the icon (or icon in previous versions of Unity) at the top-right corner of the Project panel and select One Column Layout. Your Unity windows are now set up as we recommend for using Zoe.

Sooo much better!
